Questions

Is the course really free?

Yes. Create a free account and you get every chapter, all 144 questions and the timed mock exams. No card needed.

Do I need the MROP or the Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit?

A pleasure boat heading to a foreign port usually needs only the Restricted Permit, which has no exam. The MROP is for passenger vessels, larger commercial vessels and certain Great Lakes vessels.

Where do I take the exam?

The FCC doesn't give the exam itself. Private examiners called COLEMs run the sessions, and many offer proctored online exams. You'll need an FCC Registration Number (FRN) first.
